The fascination of the
Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site
The Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage – this impressive, mysterious mountain formation that has captivated people for thousands of years – open up around Chalet Cogolara.
The name “Dolomites” dates back to 1789, when French natural scientist Déodat de Dolomieu discovered a new type of rock while travelling through Tyrol. The mineral was eventually named after its discoverer: “Dolomite”.
Tourism arrived in the Dolomites at the beginning of the 18th century. The first holidaymakers and passionate mountaineers began to explore the area. The First World War brought this boom to an abrupt halt, but not for long. Today, decades later, the Dolomites are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
